Many games are better to play with keyboard and mouse, we can mention the genres FPS, MMORPG, RTS, etc.
However there are still several other genres that are much better (and more comfortable) to play if you use a joystick control, and that is precisely why that this guide exists. We hope that after reading this guide you will have the maximum gaming experience.
As we all know not all joysticks are plug & play ones, where you just plug into your computer and magically it’s working. In fact, most console controls are not plugged & play for the PC, and you should follow a few specific steps so that they are detected and work correctly.
In this complete guide, you will learn how to correctly connect your PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One control directly to your computer using Windows.
To make this guide more practical and easy, we will divide it for each type of accessory. The first one we’re going to talk about is PlayStation 4.
DS4 Tool for PLAYSTATION 4
To connect DualShock 4, you must have:
– DualShock 4 PS4 Controller
– USB Cable
– DS4Windows Driver
The DualShock 4 is even easier than its predecessor. Download DS4 Tool on the official website, and unzip the downloaded content into an easy-to-access folder. Then run it and go to the “Settings” tab.
In the right corner of the screen, written in blue, you will see a shortcut called “Controller / Driver Setup”, access it and in the next window just follow the steps shown in the program window.
That is 1. install the DS4 driver, it does this automatically for you, soon after, in case you have never used an Xbox 360 control on your computer, you will need to do step 2, to install the 360 drivers on your machine.
After these two steps, simply plug the USB cable into your DualShock 4, and also into a USB port and it’s ready, it will be working for the computer.
To connect your Xbox 360 controller, you must have:
– Xbox 360 Controller (wireless or wired)
– USB cable (if your joystick is wireless)
– Xbox 360 joystick driver (see below)
– Wireless Receiver (for wireless controls, optional)
If your control is wired, download the driver for the control on the official Microsoft website and run the downloaded file, Windows will automatically install the wired control driver for you.
After you install it simply plug the cable into a USB port and your joystick will be working for the computer.
If it is wireless, the installation is a bit more complicated.
To make Windows recognize the control of Xbox 360, first of all, it is crucial that you have a signal receiver, called a “wireless receiver,” in its version for Xbox 360.
With the device in hand, before you plug it in, install the latest driver for the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller on the official Microsoft website.
After installation is complete, connect the wireless receiver to a USB port. To synchronize the joystick with the receiver, simply press the button on the receiver while pressing the sync button on the Xbox 360 controller.
